Your Brother's Keeper...2002

" Be your brother's keeper, "
I've heard some people say;
Or, " I'm not my brother's keeper; "
Some say and walk away.
You were your brother's keeper.
You kept his children and his home.
You were your brother's keeper
When he felt all alone.
You were your brother's keeper.
You even kept his wife;
Then you turned your face in sorrow.
A decision filled with strife.
I am my brother's keeper;
And the keeper of faint hearts.
I do not turn my face in sorrow.
I do not run away, depart.
I stand up and fight to give a voice
To those that no-one else will hear.
I listen and to understand
The cause of every tear.
I am the keeper of the children
Whom others cast away.
I fear no reprisal
From biased hearts, now run astray.
Be your brother's keeper.
Be the keeper of the weary.
Be the keeper of the hopeful hearts.
E'en the hearts grown sad and teary.
Be your brother's keeper.
Do not turn away.
Do not fear the reprisal
Of biased hearts, now run astray.
Christ was his brother's keeper.
He sacrificed his life.
To be his brother's keeper,
He suffered pain and suffered strife.
Christ did not turn his face away
From those who called His name.
When He kept the impure Madeline,
He did not feel shame.
To follow Christ's example
Is to give a voice to those
Whom no-one else can hear;
To listen and to comfort;
To dry each shedded tear.
I am my brother's keeper.
Can you friend, say the same?
Or do you fear the reprisal?
Do you fear that you may be defamed?
Are you the keeper of the children
That others cast away?
Or are you of the many
Who turn and walk away?
You were your brother's keeper.
You kept his children and his wife.
Then you turned your face in sorrow.
A decision filled with strife.
Be your brother's keeper.
Do not turn away.
Do not fear the reprisal
Of biased, now turned astray...
