A Cage To Hold My Dreams

She's Standing In My Light

I cannot skip across the sands
or step into the rain
or count the gemstones in the sky at night
I can't reach higher than my hands
or alleviate my pain
I'm blind because she's standing in my light.

I dare not walk another mile
unsure of where I tread
or see the danger off to left and right
I can't glance back at whats behind
nor guess what waits ahead
I'm blind because she's standing in my light.

I want to try out new ideas,
pursue the life I chose,
work harder to improve the way I write
but lately I'm a man who sees
no further than his nose
I'm blind because she's standing in my light

The waterfall, the old oak tree,
the noisy paraqueet,
the soulful, savoury, softer shades of night,
the beauty made by God to see
I scarcely ever see it
I'm blind because she's standing in my light.
