KATHLEEN
The verses were locked away
since their birth,
fifteen years ago.
Never before spoken out loud
until she came to do her washing.
The spin cycle ended
as the words lost their virginity to her
She brought the key
in her laundry bag
and unlocked my soul.
The words were just waiting
in their nakedness,
for that gentle ear.
As she folded her clean clothes
I watched, joyous to see her smile.
