Words of Life, Love and Praise

Walls

I built great walls once, long ago
To keep my heart inside-
It had been so bruised and battered
I dared not let another near.
Those walls were my stronghold
They kept the world at bay
But then I met you –
and you started chipping away.
Little by little the walls began to fall
Until naught more than dust remained,
my heart again willing to let love in-
You asked and asked that I give us a chance,
and when I did, I found more than I bargained for…
I found a love stronger than anything I had ever known-
but I should not have let you in-
Your situation will always keep us apart.
They say time will heal all wounds….
I pray that this is true as I begin once again
brick by brick….building great walls.
