Musings by The Poet Loriet

Full Circle

I am thinking about
how you used to protect her,
take care of her...
When she cut her arms,
you hid all the sharp objects,
not to control her but
out of love.
Last night, I hid
your sleeping pills.
I have always tried
to take care of you.

She waited, you said,
for you to make one mistake,
her excuse to get rid of you...
"She got what she wanted,"
you told me time and again.

You must have been waiting
for me to do the same...
One strike and you're out.
You got to misplace all
of your anger at her onto me.
The victim is now the do-er.
You have come full-circle.
You used me to
complete the cycle,
got your revenge on her,
got to see what it felt like.

You must be proud...
In doing so, you made
both her and I cry...
Does that make you feel
like a better man?
And you can tell everyone
how horrible I was,
how justified your
actions were.

One wrong act negated
a years worth of loving ones.
I'm so glad that you'll
be able to sleep with
your clear conscience.
You have shown your
true colors in how easily
you disposed of me.
Was I really
such a burden?

My sincere apologies.
