across the earth
most creatures thrive
in harmony at peace
while nature plays her lilting songs
her wondrous notes released
that cause all of her finest works
to dance, and hum, and fly,
beneath the glowing lanterns of
ten million fireflies
yet in that darkness also dwells
the forces that disrupt
where men make war, and bombers soar
and life ends so abrupt
how many tiny creatures
are destroyed by human hate
as blood lust flails
and young boys wail
the cost to all is great
oh, just to have one night of bliss
where every man sleeps sound
and all God's creatures unafraid
beneath the stars abound
till morning comes around.
