A Masterpiece of Infinite Beauty

I wish I was art, I wish I was a masterpiece
in a museum.  I wish people would come and stare
at me all day, remarking on how beautiful I am.
Maybe I would be a waterfall or a snow-peaked mountain,
like Kilimanjaro or Mount Helen or the Niagra Falls
in Canada.

There is something serene about artists painting mountains,
maybe it's the snow or the way
the darkness lights the background as if God were stroking
the pine trees with a silver hand.
Sometimes there is syrup in these trees,
and sometimes, I pour the syrup on my pancakes
for breakfast, the beauty of Nature sinking into my bones
with its sticky sweetness.
