On Watching Jodi Foster's Movie, "Panic Room"
I got the idea for this poem
after watching the movie three
times this weekend, on the TNT Channel.
Still a rough draft.
----------------
I sit on the couch in my living
room, painting
my nails a disgusting
shade of yellow, the color
of the sun, the color of
wildflowers, and watching the movie,
"Panic Room," starring Jodi Foster.
I do not like the part in the movie
where the robbers break
into the house to steal three million dollars,
or when the child goes
into a seizure-it makes me
think of all those horror movies
where the parents
have to go deep into the threshold
of their house just to get the
men away from their children.
A mother's instinct is to
protect her child at any cost, and she
will do whatever she
can to get the men out of
the house-even if it means breaking down the
door of the police department,
and drag one of
the police officers out to the scene
while they polish off another glazed
doughnut.
