MissedYou never had a mother, And that's too bad. I never had a daughter, That makes me feel so sad. I've missed out on the teasing, The teddy bears and hugs, The prams, the dolls, the scooters, The creepy, crawly bugs. You've missed out on the smiling, When you've done well at school, And all the nice warm cuddles, And splashing in the pool. I've missed out on the headaches, Of getting real cool clothes, And waiting up late at night, For her cheeky face to show. You've missed out on the scolding, The disappointed looks, The constant ever watching, To check which way you took. We've both missed out on living, In that very special way, Those little chats and sharing, In an ordinary day. But you have had a daughter, And I have had a mum, If we think upon these things, We wont feel quite so glum! Joy Weare. 28th September, 2004. Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
