 The Unfairness Of Angels

The Homecoming of the Prince

As I throw the sword upon the marble floor
I enter shouting “I have returned to my home once more”
The jeers and laughter of the high court echo around
The man upon the ivory throne lifts his hand till there is no sound
“SILENCE! For our prince has returned!”
“Come back to the place where he once was spurned!”
He laughs at me with a roar that shakes the world below
The stare he gives me is as cold as snow
“So Dark Prince, you have finally come home”
“Travelled the corners of my universe, and now he comes back alone?”
I walk forward and fall to my knees towards my king
“I am sorry Lord, I tried, but I have brought you something”
I reach within my black robe and take out a rose
“It comes from a world where true love grows”
He takes the rose and the thorn makes him bleed
“Love that cuts. Awe yes indeed”
He sniffs the fragrance and a smile appears
And he beckons me to him, and embraces me with tears
“I have missed you Dark Prince, my son”
“I am glad you have returned so we can rule as one”
I shake my head “My King, My Father, this can not be”
He looks at my sword on the floor, then at me
“You return from your exile to tell me you leave?
He Laughs “This I can't believe!”
“Tell me son what battles do you left have to fight?”
“What would you do again in hindsight?”
I feel all the courts eyes hang on my very word
In anger I grip my fist and scream “This is Absurd!”
My King places a hand upon my shoulder
“My son, my kingdom is yours, I am getting older”
With a silent whisper I tell him
“I love you too father, more than anything”
“But how can I die and serve a kingdom without feeling”
He picks up my sword and looks at it with eyes so wise
“But tell me this, how many times will I watch and hear your cries?”
From a scabbard of dragon's bone, he unsheathes a dragon's blade
“This my son is the finest sword ever made”
“And I give it you, for it will strike down any foe”
“But it breaks my heart to let you go”
“Yet I understand, you need to have your heart touched by another”
“I remember the time it was touched by your mother”
“She tamed a King, and I am sure one will tame my son”
“So go my Dark Prince, and find that special one”
So with the sword of the dragon and my father's love I turn my back
And enter the darkness, which mirrors my armour of black
The Dark Prince is back and stronger than ever before
This time he has new worlds to explore
