Night Light

(Note:  I wrote this around age 16 or 17.)

Stiller secrets of autumn
life
fall softly, fade gently in the
dying sunset
colors of brilliant light flock
the world,
pushing aside the dark things for one
instant, and manifest granite beauty
perhaps, now, the world can sleep
as the sun fades out of glory,
but not before it torches the night
stars, a night light
for the world.
