Christmas Typical  #262

Christmas Typical

‘Twas a season to remember; ‘twas a cold and late December
Where still glowed the dying embers by a tree held on display;
‘Twas a morning like none other when both sister and her brother
Held on tight to one another as they woke from come-what-mays;
Yes, both sister and her brother held on tight to one another
On a day much like today.

Would there be a present for us? Would we hear a Christmas chorus?
Or would Daddy once more bore us with his stories ‘bout a sleigh?
O, the children they did wonder as they snuggled down deep under
Hiding from the wretched thunder that had filled the skies so grey;
Yes, they snuggled down deep under hiding from the wretched thunder
On a day much like today.

Be it Christmas, who would judge them? From their slumber, who would nudge them?
How could anyone begrudge them from their drowsy sleepful ways?
Could their Daddy? No, he's sleeping; Could their Mommy? No, she's sneaking
‘Round the house to find safe keeping for each present wrapped so gay;
Yes, their Mommy had been sneaking ‘round the house to find safe keeping
On a day much like today.

Well, the children they got worried for to bed they both had hurried
And then heard their Mommy scurry ‘round  the house in wild array;
Was she hunting down a muskrat? Was she beating up a wombat?
Brother, tell me, Please! what was that?  (Cu-ri-os-i-ty astray)
Yes, she's beating up a wombat! Brother, tell me, Please! what was that
On a day much like today.

Children rushed outside their quarters, far beyond their given borders,
And beyond their parent's orders, finding parents where they lay;
With the Christmas tree still tilted and their love se-vere-ly jilted
And their egos rather wilted, parents put love on delay;
Yes, their love se-vere-ly  jilted and their egos rather wilted
On a day much like today.

Merry Christmas,

Lighthouse Bob
