Happy New Year?
Happy New Year?
Well another year has gone past
Has it been better than the last?
We have seen a year of tragedy
A loss of life with no remedy
We've had tears and mourning
Death of those who touched our hearts
Their lives are now over
The book of their life closed
But we have had happy times
Were a smile has helped the day
A laugh, a giggle here and there
Gives happiness in a special way
We've seen great changes during the year
Some of them fill you with awe
Holding you in a cold clasp of fear
A finish and the closing of a door
Hurricanes and tsunamis
Have swept the earth
Causing devastation
A destruction of no worth
The loss of life has been too much
Too great for our brains to touch
Incomprehension at the vast scale
Of the lives of those lost in death
But that is nothing compared
With wars and famine, already heard.
We have spent so long in warfare
That our hearts have ceased to care
It has become such a way of life
To see death, destruction and lands
Torn apart in war torn strife
All caused by man's hands
So to wish you a Happy New Year
Is some false reasoning I fear
Because whilst this continues
We will always be deep in "The blues"
For how can you be happy
When there is much that is wrong
How can your heart
Sing a happy song?
But we have to carry on
Look to tomorrow with hope
For what purpose is there
When this life is gone
We have to do the best we can
Help each other along the way
Live each day
Whatever its plan!
So I will wish you all A Happy New Year
And wish you all the best
Lets hope this year
Will be better than the rest!
