It's Closer Than...

It's closer to home than we think,
No matter how far away!
There's always a link somewhere,
And I found that link today.

We saw it on the news,
Horrified to say the least,
For the tragedy of 911...!
And the horror it released!

We chatted one night, me and Dan,
Of how I am afraid to fly,
Then Dan told me he was scared,
And then he told me why.

He was there at the Twin Towers,
Just before it occurred,
He had been offered a September flight,
No wonder he is scared...

He went earlier than September 11,
And off he flew in a plane,
Then after he was home, it happened,
And he has never flown again.

It was awful, the feeling I had,
When he told me this - that night,
I actually felt quite sick...
The thought gave me such a fright.

To think that he was there!
Around the time those people died,
And the fact it could have been him,
Really opened my eyes wide!

We never know what will happen,
In our lives - and its just as well,
For at times, it's so totally horrendous,
And things occur and life is hell!

But to think he could have been there,
Gave me a jolt out of the blue,
It saddened me beyond words,
I didn't know what to do!

To think that he was there,
And could have been on that plane,
Scared me out of my wits!
I wouldn't want him to fly again!

He said that it's alright now,
That he's over it all and he's ok!
But I find that hard to believe,
You can't forget that day!
