Sometimes he struggles just trying to make it
he protects what's his; there is no way you can take it
It takes more of a man to get it the right way
To earn it through sweat and pain working hard everyday
Some spend there lives known as a common blue collar
Where it almost seems true," another day another dollar"
But when the dollar doesn't stretch and the ends won't meet
He has worked his fingers to the bone and is dead on his feet
When he can no longer to the honest dollar stay true
He has to break down and do what a man has to do
Sometimes in order to feed his family he has to be the man he doesn't want to be
To do the things he tells his son never to do, is what he does to make it through
He is now less of a man? I must disagree and not only because it has happened to me
But because I know the battle that rages inside, between a mans responsibilites and a mans pride
When a man gives his word he must see it through, so a man's got to do what a man's got to do
I will die before they go hungry, with no roof over their heads, I will be the man they deserve or I'm better off dead
So he will steal, kill, or borrow, maybe even beg for a buck or two
But a man's got to do what a man's got to do
