Trees
UGLY TREE
limbs lopsided
leaves all loose
trunk in tatters,
ugly goose
BIG TREE
stretched out sideways
girth so wide
a whole village
lives inside
NEAT TREE
dainty slender branches
arched so tall with grace
trunk in patterned order
every leaf in place
ROMANTIC TREE
will you marry me
my love
stretch and kiss
me quick
merge into my
shadow space
let's exchange a stick
OLD TREE
broken branches
scratched up bark
leaves half missing
all is dark
DEPRESSED TREE
I'm stuck here
in this horrid ground
I cannot run or play
I cannot bounce a ball or skip
on not a single day
COLD TREE
scrawny scraggy
fragile thin
shaking bending
in the wind
HOT TREE
hot and heaving
leaves all dry
feel so thirsty
want to cry
BORED TREE
all I do
is stand and stare
at the birds
who fly up there
Joy Weare.
27th January, 2005.
