The Melting Pot.

On September eleventh
on the one hundred and seventh
floor of the World Trade tower
during that fateful hour
when collapse was eminnant
a mass of perhaps forty-five souls
just victims yet to be
huddled in the smoke and gas
coughing and praying and gasping
for air no longer available
~
Arab, Jew, Indian, Afro-American
Chinese..Japanese, Egyptian...
Italian, Swedish, American..New Yorkers
and many more unknown
even still a year later
a multi-racial, ethnic mix
working as one together
for just those few moments
with one common goal
~
to escape what truly would be
in just minutes
a melting pot
of mass porportion
that would include
their small slice
of humanity represented
on that floor
in that space and time
~
a gathering humbled by
their own mortality
realizing at that instant
that death is the great equalizer
none of them were more important
then the rest and would as one
be enveloped together
forever in the ashes and debris
~
braver souls had already leapt
in a plunge to eternity
minus one hundred and ten floors passed
prayers of all faith ascended
no one judged another man's beliefs
at this time
no one felt that their God was better
in fact some wondered where he was
~
some talked to families
on cell phones that no longer annoyed
any of those around them
with the loud chatter
yelling to be heard
above the roar of the flames
and falling debris and the
screams of those jumping
to escape the burning of flesh and bone
in exchange for the mangling of
flesh and concrete....
~
a melting pot city
now literally melting around them
no where to go...all exits except
D  E A  T  H  !  !
now blocked and impassable
seconds from the final breath
eyes wide in fear
looking at each other and knowing
that this is the day
these are their companions
on a journey never undertaken
to a place they all
believed would be different
and much later!
~
all things that once mattered
now trivial...inconsequential
as with a huge whoosh...
the floors collapsed
and they fell into the vortex
as one.........................

black mingled with white
Palestinian with Jew
Egyptians, Pakastanian...Indian
American...Chinese...Japanese
European..African...Australian
forty-five collective souls
caught up in an instant
from their shattered bodies
together they gazed
at the wonder of it all
seeing their fragile
shells that they left behind
vanish in the dust
~
ascending together
to face one God
of many names
who granted them entrance
as one...not seperating them by
racial or ethnic categories
but gathering them in his arms
to comfort and welcome them
as victims of man's free will
S U D D E N L Y
gone awry in a monstrous way
~
Ahhhhh, the angels were busy that day
bringing in the earthly damned
to a heavenly rest
and the demons too claimed souls
nineteen for sure and others who ignored
the faith and all it offered
a melting pot where some emerged
as pure as gold and blessed
and others fed the smelting
of all of the world's most evil
where they will
dance in the eternal flames
not caused by crashing planes
into masses of humans encased
in stone and steel......
visciuosly taking lives
on madmen's whims
~
isn't it truly sad that we
usually only realize
how precious we all are
to each other
and of how little importance
our differences are
when we wind up dying together
and truly need each other regardless??
~
May God bless all the people
of this planet and give them peace
and may his wrath fall
on all who would do harm
to any of his precious inhabitants
of this earthly plane.
