kindred
Kindred
I wonder if I knew you
before
in a past life
tethered to some ancient manifold.
I think I felt you here all along.
You smile
as I recount my meadows
and I smile when I imagine
your excited pup face
diving into creeks and
collecting boyhood treasure.
I know you are solid colors,
azure blue and emerald green,
painted in
bold strokes, thick lines.
I tend to be more shaded, subtle hues
set with a finer brush,
and perhaps more measured
than you'd prefer.
You tell me you're a patient man.
I laugh knowing I probably try your patience.
But you found me here, bided your time,
and waited til I found you too.
You asked if i would
know you in another world
with divergent perspectives
or different criteria.
I answered yes, too quickly.
I'm not sure you believe.
But I've seen you
solid, sharp, rational
and seasoned.
True, I know your stories
without laughlines,
and your pain without furrows,
Yet, I've seen your face.
Set hard like a warrior,
shadowed like a secret,
stoic and without pretense,
I've seen your face,
rested in your eyes,
found solace in your thoughts.
And
I would know you
anywhere.
