 Musings by The Poet Loriet

Dancing Again

Gold coins on hips,
earrings jingle as we
do an attitude walk
rolling our shoulders,
enter the stage and
hip thrusts as we turn
to face the audience;
I am dancing again,
learning my first routine
to an Egyptian pop song
called "Chickie", lots
of hip movements,
sassy moves that
make me feel like
a woman once again.
Nothing has changed
but when I put
my dance costumes on,
I am no longer
a single mom,
homeowner, nurse...
I am a bellydancer.
I know how to
move my hips,
undulate my arms
as if they were snakes,
gold bangles
sliding up and down
as I smile at myself
and the other girls
reflected in the mirrors.
We are a bellydancing troupe
while we are in the studio,
and everything else
disappears.
