Primal Ruminations

Walmart Nation

Forget your troubles forget your woes
Move over Sears, K-Mart and Lowe's,
Here comes Wall Mart to save the day,
Offering lower prices, more stuff and a cut in pay,
Clothing, groceries, electronics and more
They've got everything you'll ever need at their new store
With such cheap prices how do they do it?
You won't believe it unless you walk through it
Paradise for Americans who love to shop
Don't worry if you're not a citizen, just pick up a mop
No unions or human rights need stand in their way
All the merchandise comes from China, Mexico even Mandalay
Just like Santa's Elves they work night and day
Slavery and sweat shops, economic deprivation
Forget-about-it -- it's just growing pains for a third world nation,
Someday they'll afford the things they make
Help them out and buy that dvd, sequined vest or electric rake
With your help they can buy an extra rice cake
Say good bye to that little store owned by Mom and Pop
You'll see them again when you go to Wall Mart to shop
They'll wear a nametag and work in some department
Smile and help you mix paint or find some garment
And if your business goes bankrupt or your job gets out-sourced,
Just put on your apron and join the Wall Mart force
You'll have to give up poetry and leftist admonition
And it wouldn't hurt to join the Christian Coalition
But you'll have a job and might move up the ladder
And you might get complacent, and maybe a little fatter
But you'll learn to love your department and your little station
And, in time, you'll be glad that you've joined the Wall Mart Nation
