What we had, was not enough
it couldn't handle the strain
while merging minds, bodies, households
we encountered some heartache and pain.
We never quite made it
the united front we wanted to be
too many inner conflicts
came between you and me.
Two different personalities
strong ideas about everything
one yielding to the other
hoping some relief it would bring.
Communication shut down at some point
easier to give in
battle shy and weary
I held my emotions within.
Thought that maybe someday
we'd find our melting pot
but we never got there
lukewarm but never hot.
Nothing to hold on to
too weak to hold on
the ties we had between us
not strong enough to bond.
