A Cage To Hold My Dreams
Lazarus Re-Awakening
Why would Lazarus want to come
back from the peace and quiet
of his tomb ? I like to think
that he was consulted beforehand,
but, to be honest, I doubt it.
Jesus needed the publicity
and good ol' Lazarus, being dead,
was the perfect stunt
to put him on the front page
When I close my eyes and die
I don't want anyone barging into
the chapel of rest, telling me to
sit up and smile for the cameras.
I don't want people staring at
my head or asking
what it feels like to be dead.
When Lazarus awoke, after much
prodding and messing
with his eyelids, did someone comb
his hair and untangle his beard ?
Did the publicity girl tell him
to look happy and thank Jesus in
a loud voice ?
'Now that you're up and about'
said Mrs Lazarus,
'theres a water bill to pay,
the cartwheel needs a new rim,
and your sister Martha is being
difficult.' Lazarus groaned
and wanted to die again.
