My Voice

Plaything

Plaything

You twitch and jive
like a bug in a zapper.

Restless energy
searching for positive reinforcement.
Your eyes beg escape from the prison of your doubts.
I offer no reprieve,
no stay of rejection.

Your eyes dart fast
and faster yet
over the landscape of my face
to the oceans of people
wading through less stressful moments

and back to my face again.

Amused,
I watch you dance in discomfort,

Like a cat with a mouse,
I think
I'll toy with you for awhile.
