For A Special Team!

For Dr Chinnathura, Dr ‘Nicky' and team!

I don't know how to tell it, I don't know were to start,
So if you please, bear with me, while I tell it from the heart!

I had a problem with a painful hip,
And my toes went dead and numb,
So I phoned the NHS Direct,
To tell the operator what I'd done.
The lady told me to get an ambulance...
And she insisted I do it then,
But I said no, no way would I,
So she reiterated this over and again!

As stubborn as I was,
I was also a little unnerved too,
I had such pain, and I had gone numb...
And didn't know what to do!
So the determined lady in question made no fuss,
But dialled 999 for me,
And this as I was on the phone with her,
I wasn't going to do it you see.

When I got to the hospital,
They said it was a good job I arrived,
Admitted me right there and then,
And so now - the tale of how I survived.
A lot of things happened those 5 days,
And so my tale I will tell,
For your team basically saved my life!
It's your fault I'm here and well!

On the second day of being there,
my blood pressure went way too low,
My oxygen levels also dropped,
they told me all this, because I didn't know!
You fought for me for one solid hour -
Were it came to pass,
That it seems I almost lost my life -
A life as fragile as crystal glass!

You did tests galore, and put in lines...
And injections in me everywhere,
But me, well I was out of it,
It's like I just wasn't even there!
My blood pressure dropped so suddenly,
And dangerously low indeed,
You had to sort it out real fast;
And did it with lightening speed!

I'm told had this have happened at home,
And not in the hospital bed,
Then there would be no doubt,
I would certainly have been dead!
I would never have survived it,
And you angels saved my life,
All that dedication and determination,
And all that awful strife!

Had you not been as determined...
As to get stability in sight!
Then all I can say to that is…
My life would have ended that night!
It turned out that I had septicaemia;
And my body was under attack,
You were striving to save my life;
And the wall was against your back!

Now I'm on the mend; and this poem's not about;
‘Oh woe is me!'
It's about sending my heartfelt thanks,
To that determined team you see!
I'm afraid I don't know all their names,
But I am sure you can find that out!
And pass to them my humble thanks for my life,
For without a shadow of a doubt…

...They kept me alive by their actions;
Those actions saved my life that night!
I want you to know this, so you will know…
That for me, you fought the good fight!
Please strive to do your all,
And find and thank everyone concerned for me,
For you all truly played an important part,
On saving my life you see!

After the very first ball started rolling that night –
Others then fell alongside,
And all together, you all had a part,
In saving me - the night I almost died.

Words will never be enough...not ever.
