Emma Goes On Holiday
Emma smiled and giggled,
As happy as a clown.
She twirled with a wiggle,
And then jumped up and down.
Emma packed her suitcase
With all of her stuff.
Her mother yelled "Oh Emma,
Stop it, that's enough"
She packed in her basket ball
And her yellow cricket bat.
She carefully slid in her snake
And her very cranky cat.
Her mother said, "Pack some clothes,
And don't forget a dress.
When we go out for dinner,
You mustn't look a mess"
When the taxi cab pulled up,
Emma had pyjamas on.
She jumped into the taxi
Unaware of what was wrong.
At the airport, she shuffled
In her comfy slippered feet,
Begging for her mother
To buy a chocolate bar to eat.
They held out their tickets,
And filed straight to their seats,
As Emma chomped on chocolate
And was covered head to feet.
She fiddled with her headset,
But couldn't hear a thing.
It twisted tight around her arm
And made a sudden little ding.
When the flight attendant
Gave her orange juice to drink,
She spilt it on her mother's lap
And put her in a stink.
When Emma tried to eat her lunch,
Most of it fell on the floor.
She got so very grumpy,
And loudly yelled for more.
She tried to read a comic book,
But tore it up instead.
Her father got so cranky,
His face went shiny, red.
When the plane descended,
Emma felt quite sick.
Her mother held a bag, and said,
"Emma spit here quick"
At the airport, quietly waiting,
Stood her Auntie Rose.
Emma hugged her so tightly
And stamped upon her toes.
They squashed into Auntie's van
As happy as can be,
While Emma held her cranky cat,
And searched its fur for fleas.
Emma sang so loudly,
And gave the horn a blast.
Then when they turned the corner,
Screamed, "We are here at last"
Joy Weare.
29th May, 2005.
