Musings by The Poet Loriet

Rainy Day

Lizard with sunglasses
peeking out of denim bib overalls,
hair sticking straight up
on the back of your head
like a sideways mohawk,
your Superman underwear
matching your makeshift blue cape
crafted out of your blankie.

Hazel eyes peek out over
your black "dude-guy" sunglasses.
Seriously, you tell me,
"Be careful of tornadoes, Mom,
especially teenage ones.
They can suck your brains out.
One night when the sirens go'd off,
it was just a baby tornado...
They only suck ants."

You go back to your drawing
of scribbly tornadoes,

Unaware

of neither the spilled milk
you left
at the breakfast table,
nor
the spilled love
flowing from my heart.
