The Journal

He read her stories daily
From a journal that was their life
But she had no recollection
She'd ever been someones wife

He read of how they met
Special dates that come to pass
When he proposed her marriage
On a picnic in the grass

Oh the smiles he brought her
This tale of sweet young love
She said how they were blessed
By the lord up above

He continued with the story
Painful tears fell from his eyes
He asked in silent prayer
Let her see and recognize

He read about their passion
Love beneath the haloed moon
Even sang their favorite song
Just an old forgotten tune

All at once she new him
And cried had she been away
He said its alright my darling
I hope your back to stay

But the time was fleeting
Too soon the memories gone
Once again he was a stranger
And she in a world of her own

He continued from the journal
Still along way from the end
But his hopes were born a new
For his lover his best friend

He read about their home
Built on love and tears
The children that they bore
Nurtured through the years

He described it to the letter
There was nothing left perchance
And he saw her wipe a tear
In a moments stolen glance

She said I love you darling
I don't want to be alone
As he took her hand in his
He knew she was finally home

He read to her that day
From the journal of their life
And with her final breath
She knew she was his wife

On the day of last goodbyes
He placed the journal to her breast
You'll never loose your way again
For we've been truly blessed

Now you'll be there waiting
For a face you'll recognize
You'll know me in an instant
Bye the love still in my eyes
