Emma On The Farm
Still in her pyjamas
And in her floppy hat,
Emma sat upon the stairs
And stroked her cranky cat.
Her cat fussed and wriggled
And gave Emma's hat a shake.
It snapped at her pyjamas,
Until she was wide awake.
She looked through the window
And got a nice surprise.
There standing in the garden
Stood a cow with big brown eyes.
The cow mooed "Good morning"
And Emma mooed right back.
Then in a rush she raced outside
To give the cow a pat.
The cow was feeling ticklish,
It jiggled round and round.
Poor Emma got so dizzy,
She tumbled to the ground.
She rolled out of the garden
With cobwebs in her hair
And landed in the hen house
With chickens everywhere.
Then Emma jumped up quickly
And stamped on twenty eggs.
They cracked onto her slippers
And splattered up her legs.
Now covered all in egg yolk
And little bits of shell,
Emma felt so sticky
And had a very horrid smell.
She reached to pat the horses,
But they licked her clean instead.
Then they tried to chew her hat
And pull it off her head.
Emma screamed so loudly,
The horses shook in fright.
She put the hat back on her head
And held it firm and tight.
She climbed into the pig's pen
And chased them round and round.
Then she started spinning
With the weirdest grunting sound.
In all of this excitement
The pigs began to shriek.
They grabbed Emma's floppy hat
And tossed it in the creek.
Emma bounced across the fence
And ran to fetch her hat.
She found it slowly floating
Towards her cranky cat.
The hat was wet and soggy
And covered all in grime.
Emma felt so grumpy,
She yelled to pass the time.
When she fished her hat out
With a crooked stick,
Her reflection in the water
Made her feel quite sick.
Her mother said, "Oh Emma,
You really look a mess.
Just go and have a shower
And wear a nice clean dress"
Joy Weare.
