Musings by The Poet Loriet

April Showers

You and I
used to jump in puddles together,
our laughter ringing out
over the pelting rain,
our smiles for each other
lighting up the dreariest day.
The cold water
would splash, spray
upon our faces
and we'd tenderly
wipe it away.
Our embraces
warmed us
through the chills.
I'd jump again and again
just so I could
shiver, tremble
against you...
only now,
you've stopped jumping.
I offered you
my umbrella,
but you turned away,
walking alone,
shoulders hunched
and head hung low.
"Let it rain," you said
despondently.
I ran for shelter,
suddenly remembering
that thunderstorms
scare the hell out of me!
