Skeleton's D-Day

Once people lived freely, and
This Earth was a beautiful place
But that all changed the day we
Were conquered by a skeletal race

Some called it The End of Times
Others referred to it as, simply, D-Day
When an army of the dead broke free
From their graves, and landed here to stay

They ravaged our streets and homes
Murdered any that crossed their path
Many fought, only to lose their lives
We were outnumbered, do the math

Torn flesh hanging from rotten bones
An unsightly vision to say the least
The Gates of Hell must have parted
To release these dirty, frightening beasts

By far, not choosy, of whom they killed
Ripping even mothers and children apart
Savagely broke through the chest cavity
Then ruthlessly devoured their heart

Deceased flocks raised havoc and damnation
As the people fled screaming and crying
There was no time to save friends or family
Any who tried ended up the ones dying

In an unimaginable multitude,
The dead scampered frantically in a flurry
Almost as if running from something themselves
Viciously destroying cities in anxious scurry

When they were done, nothing was left
Most demolished, everything completely deserted
Bits of newspaper tumbled the sidewalks
Damage that was done can never be reverted

I know all that I am telling you
Because, that dreadful day, I was there
I stumbled on one feeding in the sewer pipes
Man, those flesh eating bones were everywhere

Just as I spotted him, he looked up at me
I barely escaped by the tiny hairs of my back
Now I'm left with some hellacious memories
From the day of that nightmarish attack

Then one day I had to venture from safety
I had run low on food and supplies
What I saw, promptly, turned my stomach
Heaping piles of bones and skulls, with no eyes

There's something worse out there now, I fear
Those evil skeletons must have met their replacement
I couldn't say what that thing may be though,
I'm never leaving my home sweet basement
