Moonlight Magic
There was a little fairy
Came by to visit me.
The cutest little fairy
That ever did you see.
Wispy wings of gossamer-
Dress-all shimmery blue.
Silver crown upon her head;
Gold stardust on her shoes.
Her eyes bespoke of mischief
As she did study me-
Wide-eyed, I stared back at her;
"Oh can this truly be?"
Out walking in my garden
First thought in to my head-
"Surely this must be a dream."
But-I was far from bed.
She fluttered o'er my shoulder
And hovered near my ear.
"Come my darling girl," said she.
"We'll fly away from here."
Delighted with this pixie
I clapped my hands in glee.
"Oh, yes; I will go with you,"
And she laughed; musically.
"Come, then; hold unto my wing,
And away we shall go."
Quite gingerly, I reached out,
And slowly, we arose.
What happened next was magic-
Well, I cannot be sure.
But there it was. Suddenly-
I WAS AS SMALL AS HER.
Her eyes twinkling merrily;
She danced at my surprise.
"Why be ye so amazed girl?
Of course, I would down size."
We zigzagged through the garden-
Sights I have never seen.
Daisies, tulips; come to life-
As if on the big screen.
We visited the ant hill;
Dined at ten with the queen.
Did a jig with ole man cricket-
(He was so lean and mean.)
Next stop-Aunt "Sue Bee's" parlor.
(Twas right beneath my deck)
She served up honey-lemon buns,
And hugged us round the neck.
Grasshopper played his fiddle
(fiddler on the green)
I laughed so hard I was sure
I'd split right at the seams.
All night long, we had such fun.
But then the moon went down.
My fairy friend smiled at me;
I could not help but frown.
I knew this night was over.
(Time flies when having fun)
It was a great adventure-
One I wished would not be done.
Now when I'm in my garden
And hear the nighttime tunes.
I chuckle; and do a dance
Right there beneath the moon.
