searching for family in a Milton, Vermont cemetary
Searching for family in a Milton Vermont cemetery
I found Alfred Beauvais,
the brother
of a grandmother,
who died before I was born.
He shares a stone
with his wife Lillian
who died some 25 years later.
Now as dead,
and silent as he.
Their stories_ dry, skinless bone.
No tendon holds them to muscle,
no sigh or knowing look
assists their tale.
Sealed inside
pine, buried beneath dirt and maple leaves,
they tell few secrets.
Mary
