When One Remains

By:  Samantha Fitzgerel

He gently grasps with weakened strength,
as his soul prepares to depart.
She feels the callous caress of the hand,
that so lovingly held her heart.

For so many years joined as one,
together side by side.
As he leaves for his home above,
she feels her heart break inside.

Love, laughter, babies and more,
so many things with him she has seen.
Now as his soul begins to soar
she whispers, "I'll see you in my dreams".

He'll be there in the light of the sun,
as it gently warms her face.
And at night when she feels all alone,
he'll be there in the darks' embrace.

In sorrow and sadness, she'll still feel him close,
so strong within her heart.
And though she believes the words that they spoke,
they'll remain together though death keeps them apart.
