The Dog Days of  Summer

By:  Samantha Fitzgerel

The temperature is rising, the sun unforgiving,
it's the dog days of summer again.
With our griping and complaining, we keep on forgetting,
how we couldn't wait for it to begin.

When winter was dealing us a bitter, frigid blow,
we longed for this hot humid air.
Now we wish for the chilling coldness of snow,
the seasons can't please us I fear.

Summer to fall then winter to spring,
the carousel of nature goes 'round.
We wish and we hope for, then curse what they bring,
our happiness is so fleeting I've found.

So fan yourself quickly, wipe the sweat from your brow,
enjoy that last glass of cold lemonade.
Soon fall will be here to turn greenness to brown,
and you'll find yourself longing for this day.
