The Reality Poet
Reflections of Abuse
By: Samantha Fitzgerel
Note: What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. This poem hopefully speaks volumes about surviving abuse.
The pain is still there, tho the bruises are gone,
sometimes a cold fear still grips my heart.
I loved you so deeply, but wish I had known,
how badly my life you would tear apart.
I fell so much in love with a "prince",
but the real you was kept disguised.
Captured under the spell of tragic romance,
while your demons laughed at me inside.
You struck like a viper to its prey,
so swiftly with your sick sword.
With venomous fists and tongue to degrade,
my love you defiled and destroyed.
You held me prisoner for a while,
you thought I would never leave.
You stole my dignity and my smile,
but deep in my heart I still believe....
That the power of Love still conquers all,
the strength in oneself can not be denied.
I could now look back and watch while you fall,
but your not worth it, so I'll just get on with my life.
