We are different but in many ways the same
Imagine being physically handicapped,
being confined to a chair on wheels.
Where no one knows your heartache,
and all the pain you feel.

Imagine for a moment,
trying to get by.
In a world where you are different,
and people don't say hi.

People walk right by me,
they always look away.
They fear my physical handicap,
and they don't know what to say.

Imagine for a moment,
hearing laughter as people stare.
Maybe if they knew my heart,
they would see all I have to share.

I am sad because I'm not accepted.
People don't talk to me.
Sometimes I am so sick and tired,
of being stuck in this body.

My body may not function well,
but I have a heart and feelings like you.
I feel pain and I feel sadness,
like other humans do.

Next time you see someone like me.
Don't just turn and walk away.
A simple smile and a wave,
can brighten someone's day.
