The Reality Poet

Miss Rosie

By:  Samantha Fitzgerel

Written in memory of my grandmother.

Everybody knew your name
they all came to your cafe'
Miss Rosie they called you
tho'you were Grandma to me
Mother Rose was still your name

You had the most beautiful eyes of blue
and sometimes they matched your hair
you always did your work on a stool
we always knew you'd be there

You could peel 100lbs of potatoes a day
with swollen arthritic hands
the words you'd use, sailors wouln't even say
and on wobbly legs you'd stand

Your laugh could make the angels soar
yet your words could cut like a knife
you made oodles of burgers and fries galore
and to us all, you made the best pies

I wish I could still see you today
but you left here a long time ago
if I could, these would be the words you'd say
"Baby, bring me a coke"
