It happen just last night
When coming home from work,
Ran outa gas in my old truck--
I feel like a big jerk!
But I had driven the car
Two days to work already,
So even if the gas gage failed
I thought I still had plenty.
So I grabbed my gas can
And headed toward the station,
But a deputy soon came by
And asked for an explanation.
I told him I had run out of gas
He asked me for my driver's license,
To make sure it was really mine
And thus his help he lent.
I got the gas I needed
And put some in my carburetor,
Just to give it a good start
But didn't expect the fervor.
Before I knew it the engine caught fire
And I had a situation on my hands,
Trying to put it out right quick
But things didn't go according to plans.
The officer had an extinguisher
Too bad it failed to spray,
All the while the flames shot up
In a fiery awesome display.
But he radioed fore a fire truck,
Not many miles away,
It seemed like for ever it took them
To even get on their way.
By the time they arrived
It was clearly a lost cause,
The engine and the cab
Were filled with a billowy fog.
I stood there watching the scene
That unexpectedly had transpired,
And took it quite calmly for me
Though it was my truck on fire!
I regret that it happened
But still I was safe and sound,
The old truck that served me well
No longer would be around.
Into our life change comes
Be it so for better or worse,
But with life's punches we roll
And don't view it as adverse.
For I know that old truck
Would not last forever,
I may end up with another one
That just might serve me better!
