First Class
SultryRose's Signatures
I was sitting on my front porch
when I heard someone crying
I saw the little neighbor boy
in the shade where he was lying
So I walked on over to him
and said, whats the matter son
crying like his heart was broke
I sat there till he was done
He had gone to mail a letter
but the postman sent him home
he didn't know what to do now
and he felt so all alone
I said did you have a stamp
he replied yes sir I did
but the postman just looked at me
said get on home now kid
I said let me see the letter
and he placed it in my hand
I felt if I could see it
then I might understand
The letter was addressed to God
to Heaven it would go
he mails my letters to Santa
why not this one he wanted to know
He said my daddies gone to war
and left me and mom alone
and if God can get this letter
he'll bring my daddy home
I picked him up into my arms
and off to town we went
by the time we made the post office
his tears were nearly spent
I gave the postman the letter
said he wants this mailed today
I'm sure you'll send it out right now
without any further delay
The postman took the letter
the little boys face all aglow
he said I'll stamp it first class
and to Heaven it will go
