BOUNTIFUL SUMMER
Nature's bounty bends down
with the lushness of late summer,
the air replete with the scent
of ripe grasses and fruit.
Bejeweled dragonflies hover on humid air
gossamer wings beating, now quickly,
now still, as they alight upon
tall grasses and cat-a-nine tails.
High up, colored leaves
speckle the sunlit canopy of trees
subtly reminding of the passing of time
and approaching autumn.
Ah, the plentiful promise of harvest
beckons the soul to give thanks
to the One who provided this
sweet, benevolent summer.
