Sweet Christmas Cheer"Sweet Christmas Cheer? Sweet Christmas Cheer! Not without a barrel of beer! Sweet Christmas Cake? Not without a wine lake! Sweet Christmas? I think not lass! For what is Christmas but a time of greed? Forgetting those who are truly in need! Who of us, into our homes would bring, a stranger, and then carols round the piano sing? Who of us would consider the poor out there in freezing weather? "Bah humbug!" Is all I will say, Because who of us would really give of ourselves on Christmas Day? Give food and warmth, and let another live! We are too busy with presents, tinsel and food, to be bothered with homeless people and their brood. Bah Humbug! Dont talk to me of Christmas Cheer, 'Cos it doesn't happen at this time of year! For winter "Blues" have set in deep, Makes me want to hide away and sleep. It is too much effort to raise a smile and laugh, too much to put up a tree which is "Naff"! False tinsel draped and baubles all over the place. Pine needles making a mess of my home space. Too much effort to fight in the crowds, The noise of the tannoy speakers way too loud! So dont talk to me of True Christmas Cheer Cos Honey it doesn't exist at this time of year! The table laden down whilst others go hungry out of town. The fire glowing hotly warming the room, whilst other shiver in winter's gloom. Wine flowing from glasses tall, whilst others into death fall. Think of those alone this year, cold and starving, living in fear. Bombs, disease and other things this is what this world brings so don't talk to me of chrismas Cheer! Sorry, I dont think it exists my dear! Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem |
