I waited
until the real ones
in the family
became more awake
let them clear their eyes
&
saunter the slumber off
clear their voices
and speak to me as I to them
with a heart
I walked
far enough away
to make the good ones hesitate
the ones that never change
however
they spared me no pain
opening my letters
chastising me immediately upon sight
just for
authority's sake
in front of their "friends"
not considering my feelings
sheltering their hatred
by smiling
but the way their lips curled
I knew Lucifer had been by
patting them on the back and teaching them to lie
I made a deal once that wasn't held
it wasn't my soul to sell
that is why I can walk and talk tonight
they, they made a pact
deeply in love with this world's whiles
but they stand there and deny
anything
as they are
counting
and harboring
and judging
and condemning
I ask you this
Could you
trade your own blood
for a new car and stove?
the blood I speak of is not your own
it is that of your
family
