What About The Children?

What about the children,
What about the pain?
Why hide the abusers behind closed doors?
For them to do it again!
They are afraid to use their voices,
Scared and live in fear!
Terrified of the threats of telling,
The threats are very clear!
So the children live with a secret,
As vile as vile could be!
The abuses gleefully get away with it,
So their evil is set free!
It's time to let the children know,
They need not live in fear!
They have to tell, it's not their fault,
And we need to make this clear!

We should speak out and tell our tale,
Make it known about our plight!
And rid the shame, rid the fear,
And leave the shadows of the night!
Make good come from out of evil;
Tell this tale of woe,
So all the other children's pain,
And guilt and suffering go!
Hear the children's cries in the night,
Feel for the hurt they live,
I have an ache that will not go,
And so awareness is what I give!
Highlighting abuse is one of my passions!
This is very true!
And to tell the children of the night,
It happens to others too!

The children aren't alone in their pain!
This has to be seen to be said!
To let the pain and fears go,
And to sleep easy at night in their bed!
To know they will be believed;
And to know it's not their shame!
More, it's the shame of the evil one,
Who must be stopped from doing it again!
So listen to the children,
Hear their cry's of pain in the night!
Open your ears!  Open your heart…
But never lose the sight;
Loose the sight that they need help,
Need support and comforting too!
But more, need the strength of others,
And help them walk this walk so true!

So listen with you ears,
And show compassion in your heart,
Help them rid their evil past,
And give the children a brand new start!
Don't walk away, don't shy away,
And don't pretend that it's not there!
Because it is, ask those who know!
And show those children you care!
I watch the Montel Williams show,
And the compassion that I see,
On the face of a man so great,
So warms the heart of me!
If anyone can bring forth justice,
And highlight the children's pain!
Then maybe with the support so needed…
They will show the abuser's shame!

So what about the children?
What about their painful plight?
What about the fears in the dark,
In the darkest hours of night!
We need to see their suffering,
And to admit that it goes on!
And to make the abusers we so hate,
Become a nonentity, and then we've won!
For when the children speak out,
And tell their story to me and you!
Support them, and make them aware,
We know what they're telling is true!
Believe in them, listen to them,
And open up your heart and mind,
And then, and only then,
Will you help them leave their pain behind!

Listen, watch, and take heed,
And help the children of the night!
Walk tall and leave behind;
The shadows to walk always in the light,

Open your heart!!  Open your ears!!
But please don't turn away!
Intervene! And save a child today!
