Musings by The Poet Loriet

Love By The Motherboard Light

I gathered up all the poems
I've written for you,
put them in an E-mail
with your name on it,
have written fifteen versions
of, "This is a mistake, but..."
and as my sweaty hands
hover one click away
from the ever-elusive SEND,
I lose my nerve yet again.

(Do you love me?
I gotta know right now...
do you love me?).

Fear of rejection
binds me inactive
in my desk chair,
cowering like a virgin
before the
incandescent screen light.

(Before we go any further,
I gotta know right now.)

I've already
scared you away once
when I headed too soon
for the back seat.
"Oh blind mouse...
See how they runnnnnn!"

I don't want to ruin the chance
for our fingers to meet
once again...
to be held forever
hostage by your
flatscreen love.

I hope we click soon,
because I know you'd be
at the top of my
favorites list...
if I could just get you
to let me drive!
