Poetry For Everyday People

The Lonely Us

At times I feel
I sold out my
fellow loners
when I found love,

I think about
you in your
apartments/rooms
lighting your candles
your smoke
pouring your drink
eating alone
watching TV,
reading, reading,
writing, day dreaming,
crying easy,

I think about
you always
as you
toss and turn,
as 1 a.m. comes
and you feel hot
you feel cold
psychological
warfare,
you get up
can't sleep
you pace
and pace,
you can hear
your heart beating,
you've already
gotten yourself
off good,
you're now
restless beyond
books,
drinks,
TV,

alone,

you get dressed,
it's 3 a.m.
and you drive
into the night,
throwing the dice,
up for anything
3 a.m.
will bring,

I know that place well.
