He always wanted a lot out of life,
Even found himself too busy for a wife;
Hard work and college--wanted to excel,
But unforeseen events landed him in jail.
Bitter jealousy from two guys on his job,
Found himself surrounded by an angry mob;
The final blow came as a sudden attack,
One of them approached him from the back.
Didn't want to fight, went down with a thud,
In shock, felt his face covered in blood;
Second man pulled the attacker to his feet,
Both smiled broadly, victory tasted sweet.
He quickly ran to his locker in a daze,
Everything he saw was clouded by haze;
Slamming the door, he broke into a run,
Underneath a towel he carried a gun.
Did not stop 'til he'd shot them both dead,
Forever silenced by bullets thru the head;
Endless confinement, dreams all a-shatter,
He now wonders, "Did my life ever matter?"
