Poetry For Everyday People

My Beautiful Friend

I know what you hide
between your mattress
how lonely
the loneliness can be,

I feel your guilt
tucked, a closet
full of cloth
you wanna change,
throw out, shoes
that aren't worthy
of your soles,

trapped here
with all the madness,
millions moving through
time, getting as much as
they can get,

you,
you're still looking
to find a real friend,
I hear you behind
your doors, lighting
candles, silent phone,
no e mails, too many
places that need touch,
thoughts you have
that need heard,

I know what you
hide between your mattress,
how lonely
the loneliness can be,

how a stranger's smile
can last you all day,

I wish I can tell you
it gets easier.
