Poetry For Everyday People

Sacred

Is it just me
with a sacred place?
Is it just me?

isn't that humanity
101,
don't we all have a sacred
place?  a place of our own,
far away from life, far away,
us and the moon kissing angels
by the fountains,

aren't we all equipped with
hidden magic?  private, ours
alone, the one thing we keep,
the one thing we take with us,

was I the only one in line?

don't you have things that
you feel nobody needs to know?
isn't that healthy for us?
isn't that fair? leave a little
of us, for us,
we just can't be made to believe
that life can just invade us and
take everything, it takes enough,

that's all I want now, all I want
is my sacred, my insides, I can't
give you everything when I've already
lost so much, don't ask for that, I
have to keep that.
