 The Mistress of Word Play

He Never Knew

He never knew my threadbare heart had given all it could......

He never knew my threadbare heart,
had given all it could.
He never saw those tear stained eyes,
perhaps he never would.

He never asked or cared to know,
if I was okay.
He never seemed to miss me,
till the times I went away.

He never looked beyond the outer,
never cared to peer inside.
He never cried or held me close,
damn his foolish pride.

He never smiled at funny stories,
which I used to tell.
He never saw a problem he thought,
that all was well.

He never was one to show emotion,
or to act like he might care.
He doesn't even know I'm missing,
and that I'm just not there.
