MEASURED STEPS

Measured Steps

Out of the shadows late in the night
they walked into the moonlight bright

A stag with his head held high
wearing his crown of regal antlers

Leading the way down the valley to the river
followed by a doe and their fawn

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each step is measured for safety - each sound heard is questioned
On occasion his white tail flags in the air
They stop to graze on delicious green leaves
 drinking from a clear spring - they begin to munch again
A hoot owl high in a tree watches as they go by his way
on the walk down the dale eating and playing till the break of day
Then they slip back into the dark shadows to find a place to rest
till the moon is high again
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In the distance is the sound of barking dogs
Alert they spring off in the forrest deep

Panting out of breath they stop to rest
No dogs are heard in here - all is safe for the time being

Asleep they go to the melody of the bird's song
soft in the heart of the woods

Psalm 42:1 KJV  -  King James Version

As the hart (deer) panteth after the water brooks,
so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
